If politicians want to seriously, successfully and efficiently tackle corruption and organized crime, shouldn’t they start with themselves? Why are numerous types of crime legalized in all of the countries of the Balkans? How founded are claims that political elites are funded, either directly or indirectly, by capital generated through organized crime, and what are the dangers of having organized crime as a provider of jobs and some kind of social security in countries with the highest poverty rate and weak economy?
Why does it take years to reach a verdict in corruption and organized crime cases, is this a sign of a lack of political will to efficiently investigate and prosecute these crimes?
Ivana Korajlić (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Zlatko Nikolić (Serbia), Igor Peterneo (Croatia), Stevo Muk (Montenegro) will be discussing these and other dilemmas in second episode of “Vicinities”, which focuses on organized crime and corruption, with an opening keynote by Renato Baretić.
